Instructions for Sample Submission - Recombinant Virus Services

Viral products viral particles, biosafety and virus titer analyses are ordered by filling out the Virus Particle Order Form and virus construct information sheet (.xls). BMGen will then track down and inform you about available pLKO.1 shRNA (or shRNAmir if requested) lentiviral vectors corresponding to requested genes and make a quote. We also accept customer’s own lenti- and retroviral shRNA or cDNA vectors for viral particle production.

General viral particle order instructions

When submitting the virus order form (pdf), please notify of desired insert type (shRNA, shRNAmir or cDNA), virus type (lenti- or retrovirus) and production volume of viruses (Mini, Midi or Maxi). Fill out your client information (name, institution / company, research group / department, address, phone, email) into the separate excel sheet. For extended service including cell line production, please contact us.

All virus particle sets ordered through Biomedicum Genomics will be quality controlled by p24 virus titer analysis.

Viral particles can be ordered in three different classes:

  • VSVg lentivirus particles
  • amphotropic retrovirus particles
  • ecotropic retrovirus particles
and in four different volumes:

  • Mini scale (1,5 ml)
  • Midi scale (6 ml)
  • Maxi scale (20 ml)
  • Concentrated (180 µl and 380 µl)
For further information see Products and Services.

Customers who request viral particle production from their own transfer vector should contact BMGen for details. For virus production we need the following amount of vector DNA per one construct:

  • Mini scale 10 µg
  • Midi scale 18 µg
  • Maxi scale 30 µg
  • Concentrated 30 µg or 60 µg
When submitting the Virus Particle Order Form please have the following information available:

  • Client contact information (name, institution / company, research group / department, address, phone, email)
  • Desired virus type (lentivirus or retrovirus)
  • Gene name
  • Accession number (Refseq)
  • Number of constructs
  • Product volume (Mini, Midi, Maxi, Concentrated)
  • Construct name
  • Vector DNA concentration (µg/ml) (client provided vectors only)
  • Biosafety and virus titer analyses requested

Orders related to shRNA viral particles

To make an order for shRNA/shRNAmir containing viral particles, provide BMGen a list of RefSeq numbers using virus construct information sheet and attach it to the web form. For gene search tools, check NCBI, HGNC or MGI for the latest RefSeq numbers associated with your target gene. Because all shRNA constructs are targeted against mRNA transcripts, all RefSeq numbers should start with “NM” or “XM” For example, RefSeq ID for BAK1 is NM_001188.x
